<< Passions and callings

Jordan B Peterson very often says “focus on one thing, then see what happens”. Most of us usually have that one thing that we really feel inspired to do. Activities that we usually take as hobbies and take with clear love and passion.

How would the world around us look like if we took that passion and our callings into that which we do today?

We never know where this limitless potential would take us. Let me give an example: in March: Book one; US congressman and civil rights legend John Lewis narrates how from a very young age he had a natural inclination for preaching.

He would gather his chickens in the henhouse and preach to them almost every night. He spoke to them in the same manner a pastor would to his congregation and with complete uninterest on whether his audience understood his message or not. Pure, undiluted passion.

His love of the gospel (that he remembers having from age 4) combined with his natural oratory talents produced an individual that loved what he did, and maximized the use of his abilities which (in time), led him to become a historic figure of the last century.

We should work hard to develop that which fills us with joy (or find ways to integrate it into what we do), We should do it consistently and strive for it to make a positive change into our lives.

A calling though and the passion we might have for something doesn’t mean it’ll be easy though. John Lewis’ life was not simple: in his lifetime he suffered not only economic poverty but racial prejudice as well. Yet his hard work and tenacity consistently applied eventually changed not only his life but the world.

This leaves all of us with a question: What is it that I like to do, that can be done with passion?

And once you’ve found it: FOCUS.
